The walk along a runway by which a designer shows a collection. The French word once meant the runway itself; now it means what happens on it.
What happens before the exit
Casting, fitting, walk rehearsal, hours in hair and makeup. The exit itself lasts under a minute, and the whole day is assembled to produce it. You are asked to arrive several hours early and released after the finale — leaving sooner is not an option.
What decides those seconds
Tempo, the line of the walk, and how the garment behaves in movement. The face works neutrally: the job is not to pull attention off the collection. The turn at the end of the runway is drilled to automatic, because it has to be done in unfamiliar shoes to someone else’s rhythm.

What backstage is like

Kinds of show
A runway show in a fashion week schedule, a presentation where models stand still in a room, and a commercial show at an event or in a shopping centre. Terms and pay differ, and they are not comparable with one another.
About payment
First-line shows are often paid in pieces from the collection rather than money — a long-standing practice worth knowing about in advance, so you are not counting on a fee that will not arrive.
