A shoot built around an idea: the look is designed first, and light, makeup, wardrobe and location are assembled to serve it.
How it differs from an ordinary one
The frame is known before the shoot. There is a storyboard, or at least references, and the job of the day is to get those frames rather than to look for lucky ones. Hence less “let’s try one more” and more preparation.
What it asks of a model is not a pose but a state: the character has to hold in the frame on its own, without prompting from behind the camera. That is a skill and it is built — «Emotion on Camera: A Face That Doesn't Read as Posed».
What tends to be hard
Makeup and costume. A complex look takes hours to assemble, is shot in for a long time, and cannot be removed quickly. Paint, latex, prosthetics and wigs restrict movement and make eating and drinking awkward — agree the breaks in advance.
Ask separately what is going on your skin and what removes it. Do the patch test before the day, not on it.
Why a model wants these
Such frames show range and stay in the memory — unlike catalogue work, they function as a calling card. One strong creative series explains more about you than ten commercial days.
About money
Creative shoots often run on trade or on shared costs, because there is no client behind them. That is fine as long as the outcome is agreed first: how many frames, in what edit, and by when you receive them.
